Prom Night Guide 2011

Filed under Announcements,Event Tips,School Events by DJ Mike Toro

With NYC’s Prom season approaching us rapidly, we thought it would be a nice gesture to give everyone involved with the once in a lifetime night a guide to some good fun.

To Students

1. Do not drink alcohol before or after your prom.  If you drink before your prom and you are visibly intoxicated, you might be refused entry in to your prom, a pretty dumb reason to miss out on such a momentous occasion.  Additionally, alcohol impairs judgment and can lead to some short term memory loss! Don’t you want to remember how much fun you had?

2. There is no such thing as being “Fashionably Late.”  You should plan on arriving to your prom within the first hour of it starting.  By coming too late, no one will see your wonderful limo, people will be dancing and having a good time as you enter (not noticing you), and you could miss out on things such as prom king and queen.

3. Make sure you have a small checklist before you leave your house.  Your checklist should include things like camera, cell phone, money, prom and after prom tickets and other necessities.  Girls should team up to have one small bag of cosmetics and “girly stuff” so that everyone is lugging it around.  Guys should do the same with things like hair gel, comb or brush, and cologne, and deodorant.  (YES, DEODORANT: You will get a swift NO if you ask a girl to dance smelling like you’ve just played a hard game of basketball.  Sorry guys, the ladies are usually very good at keeping themselves smelling awesome.)

4.  Lastly, have a plan mapped out for the entire night.  Know what time you are leaving or meeting up with your limousine.  Know what time prom ends and what your plans are after.  It’s not a good idea to “wing it” the night of prom.  If you are going to an after prom party, make sure you know where it is at and what time the doors close so that you don’t lose out on any money.

5. Schedule hair, make-up, manicure and pedicure appointments in advance.  By having appointments you will save yourself a bunch of time.

To Parents

1. Make sure you have the telephone numbers of all kids and parents that are traveling with your son or daughters prom group.  You should definitely also have the limousine driver’s cellular phone number, just in case you need to check on their location.

2. Don’t be too strict on your child, but also don’t let them run wild through the city.  Ask your child to honestly tell you what time they expect to be back at home, and then develop a plan for them to check in with you periodically.  Maybe a phone call or text every hour or so.

3. Know exactly what your child plans on doing before and after prom.

3. Make sure your hire a professional limousine service to drive to and from prom.  Some counties have road blocks making sure that cars & limousines have the proper licenses.  Professional limousine services will also make sure that students aren’t drinking on their watch and can either call a parent or school official.

To Staff

1. Try to set a time in which the doors to enter prom will be open.  Although it is uncommon, we have once witnessed a vast majority of students showing up to prom with about two hours left in the night.  We guess they were all trying to play the fashionably late card.

2.  Deny entry for a student who is visibly intoxicated.  Either tell them they have 15 minutes to shape up or send them home.  If the students know this rule is going to be enforced, they will be less likely to try and consume any alcoholic beverages before prom.

3.  If budget allows, try and sponsor your own after-prom activities or maybe even a senior breakfast to account for your students.

4. If possible assign zones to your chaperones, and have one person roaming the facilities to make sure no one has wondered off.

We hope that these tips have somewhat helped you and that you have an awesome prom night.  Remember that it is a once in a lifetime moment that you will look back on the rest of your lives.

Filed under School Events by DJ Mike Toro

On June 03, 2010, Toro Party DJs had the privilege of partying with Bronx Leadership Academy 1 and 2 for yet another year.  This years prom was held at the beautiful Villa Barone in the Bronx, NYC.  We had two sets of prom king and queen, a prince and a princess, and a Mr. and Mrs. BLA!  Some of the winners even added a walk-down dance when coming to be crowned.  All the winners danced together and were then joined by all of their comrades.  The Toro Party Countdown went well with hits like the Macarena for 1996 and Kriss Kross’s – Jump, Jump for 1992.  Check out the video for yourself!

We can’t wait to party with them next year, and if you want to party with us…Make sure you hit us up at 646-769-092 or visit www.toropartydjs.com for more information.
